Qld: Job prospects strong, says Treasurer

BRISBANE, Dec 11 AAP - Queensland's unemployment rate of 5.9 per cent showed prospects
for job seekers were the best since 1982, Treasurer Terry Mackenroth said today.

Mr Mackenroth said 5,900 full-time jobs were created in Queensland last month.

He said in the past year in Queensland 66,100 jobs had been created, 49,300 of which
were full-time.

While further interest rate rises posed a major threat to the unemployment rate, economic
indicators were pointing to continued solid jobs growth in the coming months, Mr Mackenroth
said.

National jobs figures released today showed unemployment remained at a near 14-year
low of 5.6 per cent in November.
